I have come across a lot of angry folk who have complained bitterly about the new practical driving tests, restricted and full but in particular, the restricted test. Changes to the way candidates are tested occured in February of this year. What is all the hub bub about?
Sure, the restricted test is much longer than before, 1 hour, it use to be approximately 20 minutes, and the full licence test has dropped to 30 minutes from approximately 45 minutes.
The ill-informed would have you believe that the new restricted test is designed to fail the driver, WRONG!!!! its the driver who fails the test.
I have personally examined the test and its intention in addition, I have driven a test route and from an intructors point of view, believe it to be robust and honest. It is also my opinion that the new test sorts the men out from the boys or women from young ladies in that it tests among other things, the drivers skill level, adaptability, safe driving techniques to name but three.
And while we are on it, the number of people who think it is okay to allow their car to roll through the STOP SIGN without coming to a complete stop is incredible. The argument advanced that carrying out such an action does no harm anyone is laughable so give me a break. Stop signs are placed at intersections for a reason and STOP means STOP it does mean 'roll through if you feel like it'.
I am bound to say that there are responsible and safe drivers out there, no question however, and in my opinion, they are the minority. What all drivers should aspire to is safe and responsible driving thus keeping everyone, including the driver, safe on our roads.
